Welcome

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.

As the most inclusive lineal society in the country, DAR boasts 168,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally.

Membership in the Society provides many opportunities to cherish our American heritage, to preserve family and local histories, to promote the celebration of our national holidays, to support our national defense, and to form friendships with others who share our love of God, Home, and Country.

Objectives of the Society:

Historic Preservation -- to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence.

Promotion of Education -- to carry out the injunction of Washington in his farewell address to the American people, "to promote, as an objective of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge, thus developing an enlightened public opinion."

Patriotic Endeavor -- to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty.

Membership Eligibility:

An applicant for membership shall be no less than 18 years of age and shall prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who, through military, civil, or patriotic service, aided in achieving American Independence. For further details about eligibility, additional information about types of civil or patriotic service, and/or becoming a member of NSDAR, please go to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
